The Century Boat Company was founded in 1926 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but two years later moved to Manistee, Michigan. Where it was based for the next 60 years. Know for quality wooden outboards and inboards It adopte  the phrase “Thoroughbred of Boats”. The company gradually transitioned from wood to fiberglass with the last wooden boat built in 1967. Today Century Boats are still manufactured in Zephyrhills, Florida.

 

  1966 in the year Century’s 17 foot hull transitioned to fiberglass to receive the “Fibersport” name. This name only lasted a year before it became the “Resorter” model. This classic design with its craftsmanship were very popular for their utility and versatility.

 

  “Wild Fire” is an 40th anniversary edition and only 184 were built. This is a family boat well used and loved. In fact Fred’s father won it in a card game, but unfortunately it was damaged. He patched the hole and designed his own exterior and interior color scheme. This is the beginning the restoration and continued up grades to “Wild Fire”. Eventually it was repowered with a modified 440 cubic inch engine from a Cobra. This engine has also been highly modified and replaced three times. The gas tank also has been replaced over the years and enlarged. Fred inherited this boat when his father told him, “When you buy a house I’ll give you the boat”. So Fred bought a house. Today “Wild Fire” cruises on the Delaware River.
