Sea Scout Ship 117

    Five Members of Sea Scout Ship 117 attended the commissioning of the U.S. Navy’s latest fast attack submarine USS New Jersey. After the ceremony the submarine officially joins the US Navy Submarine Force. On this same Saturday, September 14th other members  of this Sea Scout Ship  attended the 40th Annual Antique & Classic Boat Festival at Point Pleasant, New Jersey . This event was jointly sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter and the New Jersey Boating Museum at the Johnson Brothers Boat Works. Besides displaying a sailboat, which is used to teach rowing & sailing they brought a 1973 sixty-five foot US Navy Swiftboat named “SeaHorse”. Sea Scout Ship 117 is part of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter ACBS youth outreach.

  The Friends of Young America a 501c3 organization sponsors Sea Scout Ship 117 as their youth outreach program. The Boy Scout of America’s Sea Scout Program encourages Safe Boating, Sailing, Navigation, Boat Maintenance and the establishment of life long friendships. In addition through the efforts of their Advisor, Shipper Bill Murphey they are in the process of restoring a 40 foot Coast Guard Rescue Boat. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the A. C. B. S. is proud to support them.

    The Sea Scouts meet at the Tuckerton V. F. W., 38 Gifford Rd., Little Egg Harbor Township. Meeting are held at 6:30 Pm. every second and fourth Wednesday of the month. The Sea Scouts provides boys and girls, ages 14 – 20, an opportunity to learn boating safety, operation, navigation, and maintenance in a supportive, secure environment.
